Pentaxyl™ contains a number of peptides that are also available in other anti-aging creams for sale, as well as other ingredients such as Shea Butter. More specifically, Pentaxyl contains Palmitoyl Pentapeptide 7 which is otherwise known as Matryxil. The ingredients in Pentaxyl are also listed as consisting of Acetyl Hexapeptide 3, an ingredient derived from natural proteins. Acetyl Hexapeptide is also referred to as Argireline, and is said to have a Botox like effect as it relaxes the facial muscles, which in turn minimizes wrinkles caused by recurrent muscle contractions. There is no doubt that Pentaxyl does contain some ingredients in which clinical studies have shown them to have an anti-aging effect on the skin. There is absolutely no evidence however that Pentaxyl is in any way superior to other anti-aging creams available for sale that also contain Argireline and Matryxil. Additionally, many Matryxil based formulas are replacing that active ingredient with the improved peptide Matryxil 3000.
The rest of the ingredient list is a long one, leading to some concern over whether too many ingredients in the formula might decrease the effectiveness of the product. Many of the other ingredients seem to be included for their hydration and antioxidant properties, which can also be beneficial for skin health. For example, shea butter and sesame oil are excellent moisturizers, while vitamins E, C and A can help prevent damage to the skin that can occur from both internal and external factors. Bearberry and licorice extract are added to brighten the skin and diminish spots of discoloration.
